Acting Schools
Going to acting schools is definitely not an uplifting or an encouraging experience. A lot of people take children acting classes when they are kids as a way to improve the chances of getting into school plays and to have some fun in a rewarding hobby, but it usually doesn't go any further than that. Acting school is serious business. In an acting class for teens, you will be flooded with praise for the slightest thing you do right. Even if you are a miserable actor with no chance of ever succeeding in anything, it doesn't matter. You could be Keanu Reeves himself, and the teacher would still pretend that you had talent. This is why so many people get involved in theater and film majors later in life ? their childhood drama class coaches tricked them into it.
Acting schools are some of the bleakest places on earth. You see, for actors everything is about appearance ? that is the nature of the trade. Acting schools, for this reason, are truly cutthroat places. Everyone tries to disguise their own imperfections and insecurities, coming across as confident, self-assured, and above the rest. Nonetheless, everyone in acting schools is surrounded by other people like this. This means that, behind the scenes, everyone drowns in there own insecurities. If you are in your early 20s and in acting school, it means that you probably haven't landed any serious roles ? few actors have by this age. Nevertheless, your days as an actor are already numbered. For film acting, you start early or you start never.
I first started taking acting classes in New York a few years ago. I was going through film school at the time, but I was realizing that I didn't want to direct. I simply didn't have it in me. I thought that I would gain more from transferring to a full-time acting school, and I did pretty well in the auditions. I wish I hadn't gotten in in retrospect. Acting schools are the pits. Once you get that first taste of the potential for fame and fortune, it is hard to give up, but this doesn't mean you are going to succeed. Basically, acting schools play with your emotions. There is nothing more glamorous than the famous actor, but there is also nothing more pathetic than a would be actor who has failed. Many fail and few succeed.
Acupuncture School Guide
There are many people who are frustrated with western medicine, and some of these people turn to other types of healing when something goes wrong. One of the most popular forms of alternative medicine in the United States is acupuncture. This form of healing uses the energy channels of the body to promote better health. The theory is that when the balance of energy is not as it should be, or some of the energy channels of the body are blocked, illness occurs. Acupuncture is meant to keep things in balance. Anyone wanting to try this should be sure they find someone who has gone through acupuncture school.
It?s not wise to let just anyone stick needles into your skin. Those who have gone to acupuncture school and who have practiced under the watchful eye of someone with years of experience is the best bet for proper healing. The balance of the body is delicate, and applying the practice in the wrong way will not work, and might even make things worse for the patient. In order to get proper treatment, it makes sense that the person wielding the needles must know what they are doing, and why they are doing it.
There are some who will not see anyone unless they have completed acupuncture school in China. They don?t trust the schools in the US, and I guess that is somewhat understandable. However, there are some great schools here, and most of them were started by masters of acupuncture. When signing up or looking for a school, a person has to determine the validity of what the school has to offer, and who is running the classes and the school. As with anything, some schools will be better than others.
Anyone interested in attending acupuncture school has a lot of options out there, and most of them are good ones. However, not all are good, so research is essential. Find out what they teach, how long the course may be, and find out about accreditation. Some of these schools will have financial aid, and may have courses like therapeutic and medicinal massage and therapy training, and some training with natural herbs and other alternative medicines. Acupuncture school should not only teach the practice of acupuncture, but the theories and beliefs that come along with it. Only someone who truly understands what it is all about can give effective treatments to their patients.
Architecture School
is definitely a strange place. Most of the folks I know at my architect school have some kind of extremely idiosyncratic vision of why they came there in the first place. For some people, it was all about some building that inspired them as a child. Perhaps they grew up in some gorgeous mansion. perhaps they went to one of the great museums of the world as a kid and were completely captivated by it. Whatever it was, a single building got them interested in the process of designing and building others.
For other people, architecture schools are part of a political mission. You wouldn't believe how many visionaries there are at an average architectural school. At the one I go to, they probably make up half the class. Some of them want to design buildings with the idea of providing beautiful and affordable housing to the poor, others to change the way we see space as a society.
For me, going to architecture school was part of a much more down to earth experience. As a matter of fact, you could say that I always had an interest in buildings. I grew up on a farm, in one of the last communities in this country that still practices barn raising. For me, architecture school was not the realization of a lifelong abstract dream, but rather a way to build on my early, hands on experiences with communal buildings.
I feel like this gives me a much clearer vision than many people in architecture schools nowadays. Your typical architecture school student has his or her head in the clouds. In some ways, this is a good thing. It is good to have a vision to unify your buildings. There are many things that buildings have to be. They have to be functional, structurally sound, and comfortable to occupy. They don't necessarily have to be beautiful. When they are beautiful, however, it is like a wonderful luxury for the city around. Although not everyone understands an architect's vision, they can tell whether or not he has one.
On the other hand, if you enroll in a school of architecture without any hands-on experience, you can lose track of the purpose behind what you are doing. Architecture is, after all, about providing spaces for people to live and work. Architecture school can teach you many things, but unless you go in with this understanding, you will never build with both elegance and practicality.
Bartender School
Not all careers demand a college education. The truth is there are other fields that can be pursued with a mere high school diploma. One of these areas of employment is bartending. While you naturally have to be 21 to tend bar, you don't need a bachelor's degree in engineering or English to make it happen. However, you might find bartender school rather beneficial. This is a place you can learn all about beer, wine and liquor. It pays to understand the tricks of the trade before you hop behind a busy bar to serve and mix countless drinks.
Why a bartender school? I asked myself this when I chose to become a bartender. My first thought was to just research what bartending jobs were available in my area. I would strut on down and make a great impression. Once they spotted my charming smile, they'd have to hire me. Haa, that's a joke! Like most professions on this green earth, bartending is very competitive. Most nice places are looking for individuals who've had experience behind the bar or have gone through a bartender school and gotten certified. After looking around and feeling the heat of competition, I took it upon myself to check out the local bartender school in Raleigh, North Carolina. The woman who ran it was very professional and as friendly as ever. I was pleased to discover that I could achieve a certificate in bartending after only one week of hardcore training. It costs me a mere 200 bucks so I was in and anxious to learn. In no time I was mixing drinks and memorizing endless combinations. I learned about high-end liquor and the low-end stuff. By the end of the course I knew how to make 100 different drinks. It was sweet and I knew a good bartending job was about to be mine. To my surprise, the woman that ran the school helped place me with a great job at a five star hotel. You don't get any better than this! In less than a week I was making wonderful tips to pay for college.
Check out a local bartender school if you plan to acquire a decent bartending gig at a hotel, restaurant or night club. This is the best way to get your foot in the door! Especially if you have no other experience under your belt. Think of bartender school as a college degree for bartenders. Beat out the competition with the right education!
