Countless career opportunities exist in almost any field you can imagine. The problem is that most people aren't aware of these opportunities and don't know how to take advantage of them. This same principle applies to those who are starting out in a new career. Many people end up in lifetime careers they aren't happy with just because they didn't do adequate career planning when they were young. This article will show the importance of early career planning as well as explain how to do effective career planning.

We all have our own likes and dislikes, career choice also reflects this set of likes and dislikes. While one person may grow up hoping to be a great rock artist, another while be more inclined toward being a space shuttle pilot. Imagination and wonder are great, as they open up our mind to the world of possibilities that are out there, but we must be aware of the importance of hard work in realizing those dreams. It is because we lack career planning that the majority of us never see our childhood dreams come to fruition.

It's best to start early, and a good way to start is by asking adults you know for opinions about their jobs. You might ask your parents, aunts or uncles, older friends, or teachers about their jobs. Ask for their opinion on careers that you know about and ask them if they can help you get more information about others. Their extensive experience and interaction will help you make a career choice.

If you still feel hesitant or unsure about your future career path, don't delay going to a professional in career counseling. High school students can and should take full advantage of their school's career guidance center, getting all the advice they can. These professionals specialize in assessing the skill sets and career needs of individuals, and they are qualified to perform a variety of psychometric tests to evaluate your aptitude for all different types of careers.

Local libraries and bookstores are a great place to find career planning guidebooks. A guidebook will contain information for making a career choice, such as profiles of conventional and unconventional jobs and what skills and characteristics are required to succeed. A book will also contain experiences of people already working in those professions. If you relate to the description of a certain job, you might want to choose that job.

Having said that, it's just as important to think about your personality, skills, qualifications and priorities in life in order for your career planning to be effective. SWOT analysis is a good method to employ as you do such an analysis. Don't forget that creativity and passion have no boundaries. Feel free to dream big. Once you have your dream career in mind, all you need to do is steep that dream in reality.

When starting a career there are many opportunities -- but they must be seized. In this brief, I hope to demonstrate to our younger audience that it is greatly to their advantage to start career planning early. Look for the opinions of friends, parents, neighbors, teachers, and several others about their employment. They can draw on their wealth of experience in different fields, and seeking their advice will also be helpful to you in making your career choice. If after these conversations, you still feel hesitant or hazy about a possible career; you should waste no time in seeking career counseling from a professional.

In the last few decades, the dependence on computers has grown steadily. Rapidly expanding technologies have enabled almost any business to take advantage of the convenience and efficiency of these powerful machines.

Computer networks have revolutionized industries, from banking to communication and everything in between. With more and more companies changing their records and sales over to computer and more and more homes relying on personal computers to track finances, shop for the books, and catalog music, the need for trained computer troubleshooters and technicians will only increase in the immediate future.

There are various options for those trained in computer repair, whether you decide to work for a small local business or venture into the larger world of international corporations, but the first step is always a good education from a reputable computer repair school. Without a complete understanding of computers and their many parts, including not only the basics like motherboards and memory, but also infrequently studied hard drives, floppy, drives, and files, you will not be able to work in the field. Only those who get a passing grade on the A+ Certification Exam, the industry's competency test, will be given recognized certification.

The exam covers a lot of different areas and tests your skill levels on all aspects of computers, including the latest. It measures performance skill levels on installation, diagnosis, maintenance, and networking. In addition, there are questions on security and safety issues as well as environmental responsibility.

There is more to computer repair than just repairing hardware and replacing parts. You must learn to use diagnostic equipment, and you need to learn to listen to a computer's users to help figure out the source of a problem. The time spent on a first-rate education is well worth it, however. There are many choices for computer technicians, and the pay is respectable. And with the expansion of the world's dependence on computers increasing yearly, the jobs are going to be there!

If you are one of many people who initially made the decision to forgo post secondary education but now regret it years after the fact; maybe you started your college education but didn't finish? If these circumstances describe the path your life has taken it is important to know that it is never too late to return to college and receive your diploma.

Receiving a college education is very important as many perspective employers seek to fill positions with highly educated and qualified individuals. Life and work experience was once sufficient enough to get your foot in the door and maybe even advance your career, however this is no longer the case. Now holding a college degree is a requirement for anyone looking to work within a specialized field.

An education never expires and will help open doors within your chosen field regardless of how long you have been out of school. Education is therefore extremely valuable for all those who possess one.

It's never too late

The truth is that it is never too late to decide to go back to school. People of all ages and within all fields decide to go back to school or to become educated in a particular field. However, individuals who go to college for the first time or return to college are doing it because they want to enter a new field of work or they want to advance within a company they already work for.

However, the ideal college education is one that prepares the individual for work right away. This is a more practical and hands on type of education. There are still people in our society not working within their degree fields because they had no job placement assistance or they were not prepared in the way that they should have been prepared before they graduated.

Work preparation

It is not sufficient enough to have text book materials shoved down a student's throat, handed a piece of paper, and told to have fun in the world. This can leave the student wandering around to find something in their degree field. What is good is when the courses prepare the student to work in that field rather than pouring the textbook versions of everything into their heads. What the student needs is a hands-on approach or some sort of interaction that allows them to experience what it is like to work in that field. This can also help the student determine if this is, in fact, the degree field they want to be in. They may have experience through work preparation that they do not like and may decide that the field they are studying is not the field they wish to be in after all. It is better to make this decision while in school rather than be stuck in a career they hate once they enter into the real world.

By being straightforward and preparing the student, this can result in less career changes and less students who are disgruntled with their college degree. This also results in a higher quality workforce because they know what they are doing before they do it. It minimizes training in new skill areas and makes the graduate more confident in what they are doing on the job. Uncertainty is one of the reasons why so many companies have high turnover. Work preparation can ease this situation and make the entire process and experience better for all of the parties involved. That makes one wonder why there are not more colleges and universities taking a work preparation approach in addition to filling the students full of knowledge.
